Scholarships
Funds for extracurricular activities
Do you have a good idea for a guest lecture or a student activity that promotes the field of geography? The South Swedish Geographical Society provides funds for projects that contribute to promoting the field of geography. This autumn you have the opportunity to apply for money to arrange activities that are normally not possible to carry out within the framework of a course. It can e.g., involve excursions or arrangements where you want to invite external guests. The activity must be open to more than the applicants.
The announcement is aimed at students at Lund University at
as well as other members of the society.
The applicant group (with at least three people) shall submit a short application (max. 2 A4 pages) that describes the activity's content and purpose, intended participants and a short budget. The application is sent to the society's secretary: linda.stihl@keg.lu.se
Maximum amount available for each application: 10 000 SEK. An account of the activity should be reported back to the board in a short, written report.
Note: As of November 2025, we accept applications year-round. We will get back to you as soon as possible.
Members of SSGS are given priority. You can become a member by filling out a form on www.ssgs.se/membership and paying the membership fee of SEK 100.
Funding is hereby announced from the Torsten Hägerstrand Fund. Two scholarships of SEK 12,000 each will be awarded - one specialising in human geography and one specialising in physical geography. Priority is given to applications from researchers who have recently completed their doctorate or are in the final stages of their doctoral studies. The scholarships are meant to cover costs for field work or travel to conferences. Priority will be given to trips where the full cost of the trip is covered by the grant. The grant does not cover per diem. After completing the trip, the grant holder(s) must present how the funds were used at an event organised by the Society.
The application should consist of no more than two pages, plus necessary appendices. The application should describe the purpose of travel, destination, time of travel, and a specification of costs. An updated CV should be enclosed in the application. It should also include the applicant's name, date of birth, academic exam, position, affiliation, postal address, e-mail, and telephone number. Questions may be put to the e-mail below.
The application should be sent as one pdf-file to the Society´s secretary, at:
linda.stihl@keg.lu.se
The application period is currently closed. The next round is planned for autumn 2026.
